By installing Windows 10 SDK, I had at my service a tool called 'Windows Phone Application Deployment 8.1' and to get it to work I just need to connect the Phone through USB cable, select the APPX file I want to upload install to the phone and 'DEPLOY' :)
There are a couple of other capable tools to deploy apps to a Developer Unlocked Windows Phone Device, such as Windows Phone Power Tools and XAP Deployer. But because these require your phone to be developer unlocked already and during the process of developer unlocking you also get the official Application Deployment app, we decided to choose that over anything.
Unlike some other smartphones, the Nokia comes with a manual to help guide you through its functions. If you get stuck, no worries. Nokia also has a free service called SmartStart where you can have a Nokia expert call you to walk you through setting up your Windows Phone.
To extend your battery life, you can set up Battery Saver in Settings which prevents the phone from downloading emails automatically and running programs in the background. This feature also tells you the estimated time left on your battery charge.
GPSThe Lumia 710 comes with Nokia Drive, a free GPS system with voice commands using Navteq mapping software. Though the icon shows up on your home screen when you first get the phone, you must download the app before you start to use it. You can download maps for the entire US or for individual states. The app for the entire US is a whopping 1.8GB which will consumer a good portion of the 8 GB of space on your phone, so choose your mapping needs wisely.
Transferring ContactsWindows Phone makes it easy to transfer contacts from another Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. Launch the Contacts Transfer app, pair your Lumia with your old phone using Bluetooth and within seconds your contacts are transferred.
PhoneIn case any of you are interested in using this smartphone as an actual phone, rest assured it can make and receive calls. The call quality is excellent and you can assign ringtones and save favorite contacts to your home screen for easy calling.
All hope for Windows Phone is not lost. Palm faced a similar issue with its WebOS mobile operating system that gained a fan base without having many apps. Unfortunately, WebOS never succeeded but Windows Phone may be a different story due to the impending launch of Windows 8 for computers later this year. Windows 8 will incorporate the Live Tiles and Metro UI features from Windows Phone, making your computer seem more animated and friendly. If apps for Windows 8 can be integrated with those for Windows Phone, people may look to have their smartphones sync with their computers, making Windows Phone a much more compelling platform.
The Nokia Lumia 710 phone is available in black or white and is free from T-Mobile on the web only with a special promotion until 5/31/12, with a two-year contract. After the promotion ends, the phone will be available for $49.95 with a two-year contract.
Hi Manuela, Welcome to The Wonder of Tech! I have great news for you. The back covers are accessories for the Lumia 710 and are sold separately. The colored covers replace the back cover that comes with your phone. You can get a yellow one and pop the back cover off of your phone. Voila! You will then have a yellow phone!
Smart phone war is getting really interesting. Nokia was a big player in mobile before they gave way to iPhone and Samsung. Microsoft has also a big chance to make a comeback. They produced some very easy to use technology that made coding fun.I think they can get a lot of developers on board quickly if they do things right and it will give consumers further choices in the competitive mobile market
I have been using the Nokia Lumia 710 for the last one week and it is awesome!! My hubby got this phone for me as I had a really old phone and he was asking me to upgrade to a smartphone. He also told me that this was a fairly basic smartphone that would be easy to understand and use and that the Windows Phone 7 operating system was good. I am really happy to have received this phone and I would suggest this phone for anyone moving from old phones to a new smartphone.
This comes at a time when WhatsApp is already in the process of putting an end to support for all versions of Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile. As we reported earlier, Windows Phone users will not be able to use WhatsApp on their Windows smartphone after December 31.
In Edge, go into '...' and Settings and then pick 'Desktop version'. Note in particular that you're still going to m.facebook.com, but it's being interpreted in slightly more sophisticated fashion because Facebook's server knows that you're using something (in theory) higher end. So you then get:
Now, if the DMH panes look familiar, it's because they're the basis for what I'm calling DMH+ applications. LightSocial Pro is one such, featured here, though SlimSocial and Likebook for Facebook do a very similar job (though their 'Messenger' presentation isn't quite as neat IMHO). In each case, the application presents itself to Facebook as a Desktop browser going to m.facebook.com and then the HTML returned is subtly modified, perhaps setting the background dark (to save power), perhaps media detecting and local saving are made possible, you get the idea. As I say, I'm calling this DMH+. Here's a brief walkthrough using LightSocial Pro:

Developers will also be able to build "universal apps" for both Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8 that share almost all code, except for that specific to the platform, such as user interface and phone APIs.[25]
Storage Sense lets users move files and apps between their phone's hard drive and a microSD card, and incorporates features previously available in the "Settings" section that gave users the ability to delete temporary files to free up storage and uninstall applications.
Users can now automatically upgrade existing phone calls to Skype video calls from within the phone call UI, which has also been revamped with larger buttons. In addition to a large photo of the contact, text with the user's name and phone number now appear at the top of the screen instead of directly above the dialer. Skype calls can also be directly initiated from Cortana.[34]
Xbox Music and Xbox Video provide streaming services for movies, music, and TV shows, and are separated as opposed to being joined together in previous versions. Notably, Xbox Video now has built-in support for video streaming.[24] In addition to separating its music and video streaming services, 8.1 also adds support for separate volume controls, audio and video transcoding, hardware acceleration, stereoscopic 3D, and the ability for apps to capture and record video independently of the operating system's built-in video recorder. Furthermore, built-in support for streaming through DLNA to monitors and television screens, referred to by Microsoft as PlayTo,[35] is also included, as well as the ability to mirror display from a phone to a separate screen. Media editing tools have also been refined: apps for slow motion video capture, video effects, and audio effects have been added. Microsoft currently provides bi-weekly updates i.e. twice a month, to both of these apps. In August 2014, A2DP and AVRCP support was also added.[36]
A third column of live tiles, which was previously available only to Windows Phones with 1080p and select phones with 720p screens, is now an option for all Windows Phone 8.1 devices regardless of screen size. Microsoft has also added the ability for users to skin live tiles with a background image.[34]
The keyboard was touted for its speed and accuracy, and brought fame to Microsoft's research division when fifteen-year-old Lakeside School student Gaurav Sharma, using a Nokia Lumia 520 equipped with Windows Phone 8.1 and the "Word Flow" keyboard, broke the Guinness World Record for the world's fastest typing on a mobile phone, which was previously held by a Samsung Galaxy S4 user, by eight seconds.[43][44] This record was short-lived, which was subsequently beaten a month later by Marcel Fernandes, who finished a quarter of a second faster using the Fleksy Keyboard, a competing keyboard available on iOS and Android.[45] However, as Flesky relies on predictive text algorithms rather than swiping gestures, it is fair to say that "Word Flow" remains the world's fastest "swipe" keyboard on a mobile phone. 2ff7e9595c
